CAME-TV has announced a series of COB Focusing Travel Light Kits. Essentially it is either two or three Fresnel COB fixtures and accessories in a custom foam cut out that can be put directly in Pelican 1510 and 1535 hard cases.
This announcement comes on the heels of the CAME-TV P-1200R Ready to Fly kit, which is essentially a similar concept, but one that uses panel lights instead of COB fresnels.
What do you get?
Well, this depends on the kit you choose. The COB Focusing Travel Light Kits consists of either two or three Boltzen Q-55S lights, a custom foam cutout, and different accessories depending on which kit you select. The kit options are:
- Q-55WMKII- 4BATTERY
Above you can see what comes in each of the kits.
I will concentrate on the specifics of the Q-55WMKII- 4BATTERY.
- 2x Boltzen Q-55S Fresnel fixtures
- 4x Sony NP batteries
- 1x Dual Sony NP charger
- Wireless remote controller
- Filter Kit
- 2x AC Power adapters
- 2x D-Tap to Boltzen Q-55S power cables
The whole kit weighs in at 6.05kg (13.34lb).
The Boltzen Q-55S lights can take two Sony NP batteries. In the Q-55WMKII- 4BATTERY kit, CAME-TV gives you 4x NP batteries and a dual Sony NP charger.
You also get a wireless remote controller.
Traveling light kits are a good idea, especially for solo operators or small-sized crews. Having the ability to put a lighting kit into an existing Pelican case that you may already own keeps things neat and tidy and you doN7t have to try and jam lights into another bag.
The CAME-TV Boltzen Q-55S Fresnel lights are affordable alternatives to more expensive COB Fresnels. I reviewed the lights previously on the site.
The CAME-TV fixtures weigh in at 1.05 kg (2.3 lb) and have physical dimensions of 30.5 cm (12″) x 9 cm (3.5″). These measurements include the yolk frame.

The CAME-TV Boltzen 55W doesn’t operate in exactly the same way as a traditional fresnel light, but the results are the same. With most fresnel lights the reflector/lamp tray moves forwards and backward away or towards the lens. As the lamp (with its reflector) is moved towards the lens, the beam becomes wider, and as it moves away from the lens, the beam becomes narrower. With the Boltzen however, the LED element stays still and the lens is moved forwards or backward. This is intended to accomplish the same idea in a slightly different way. Overall the spot and flood functions still work well
One of the most unique things about the Boltzen 55W is that you can actually remove the lens that sits in front of the LED element. When used without the lens, the light allows for a far wider flood than you can achieve with it in. If you want to control the spill when using the light this way you can use the barn doors. You do however lose a lot of the intensity of the light as the LED is having to spread the light over a much further area than usual. Despite this, it does make the light quite versatile and it allows you to use it for other purposes.
The CAME-TV Boltzen Q-55S lights have good output, good color reproduction and they offer very good value for money.
CAME-TV makes quite a few optional accessories for the Boltzen lights. These include a softbox, V-mount battery clamp, and a range of diffusers and filters.
