DJI Avata 360

DJI has announced its new Avata 360, which delivers 360° imaging with 1-inch-equivalent sensors, and it can capture 8K/60fps HDR video. Avata 360 is said to combine the creative freedom of a 360 camera with the thrill of FPV flying.

The DJI Avata 360 looks to be in direct competition with the Antigravity A1. DJI recently filed a patent ownership lawsuit in China against Insta360’s parent company, Arashi Vision. The lawsuit claims that six key patents registered by Insta360 infringe on existing DJI patents. DJI is arguing that the disputed technologies, which include flight control systems, structural design, and image processing, were developed by former DJI employees within one year of their leaving DJI.

The Avata 360 utilizes DJI’s O4+ video transmission system and obstacle sensing. When paired with DJI goggles and motion controllers, it can deliver an immersive 360° flight experience. Users can also use DJI remote controllers to capture a full 360° view in a single flight that can be reframed from any perspective.

The drone weighs Approx. 455g.

Avata 360 offers two different lenses. The 360° lens uses 1-inch-equivalent sensors that can capture 360° images at up to 8K/60fps and 120 MP photos. It has large 2.4 μm pixels and claimed high dynamic range. Both video and photos can be exported directly or reframed in post-production. The Single Lens mode allows you to film at up to 4K/60fps.

360° Mode:
8K (2:1): 7680×3840@60/50/48/30/25/24fps
6K (2:1): 6000×3000@60/50/48/30/25/24fps

Single Lens Mode:
4K (4:3)*: 3840×2880@60/50/48/30/25/24fps
4K (16:9): 3840×2160@60/50/48/30/25/24fps
2.7K (4:3)*: 2688×2016@120/100/60/50/48/30/25/24fps
2.7K (16:9): 2688×1512@120/100/60/50/48/30/25/24fps

* Only supported when using DJI Goggles 3/N3 paired with DJI RC Motion 3 or DJI FPV Remote Controller 3.

  • Video Format OSV/MP4 (H.265)
  • Max Video Bitrate 180 Mbps

Avata 360 offers up to 23 minutes of flight time and includes several standard safety features, including nightscape omnidirectional obstacle sensing and integrated propeller guards. Equipped with a forward-facing LiDAR sensor, the Avata 360 supports all-directional obstacle detection, which is handy when shooting night scenes in 360° mode.

ActiveTrack 360° automatically selects the optimal tracking mode. In Standard Mode, the drone maintains a constant distance and altitude from the subject. In Cycling Mode, the drone responds more quickly to turns, ensuring it stays locked onto the subject and maintains the framing even in complex environments.

Spotlight Free automatically locks onto moving subjects and assists with camera movement. DJI states that you can use this to recreate the advanced camera movements once only achievable by professionals operating the Inspire 3.

You can edit your footage using DJI Fly or DJI Studio. DJI Studio, in particular, offers a wide range of tools to ensure a seamless workflow. With the right plugins, you can even create 360° videos directly within Adobe Premiere.

As long as you are within Bluetooth range, you can power on the drone and download footage via the DJI Fly app without having to take it out of its case. You can transfer 1 GB of data at a maximum speed of 100 MB/s in around 10 seconds. Even if you switch apps, the download will continue uninterrupted in the background.

The drone can be flown with DJI remote controllers (RC 2, RC-N2, RC-N3), while DJI goggles and motion controllers offer a more immersive flight experience with 360° imaging at 1080p/60fps. Like the Avata 2, aerial acrobatics like drifting can be performed with the DJI RC Motion 3.
