Sigma has announced that their 16-300mm F3.5-6.7 DC OS Contemporary is now available in Nikon Z mount. If you are looking for a APS-C coverage, one stop, do it all lens for your Nikon camera that covers a massive focal range, and you can deal with a relatively slow variable aperture, this looks like a good solution.
This lens has been available in Canon RF, FUJIFILM X, L-Mount, and Sony E mounts for a while, but it is good to finally see it come to Nikon.

The Sigma 16-300mm F3.5-6.7 DC OS Contemporary features an 18.8x zoom ratio and it covers entire range from wide-angle to super-telephoto.
The lens utilizes a HLA (High-response Linear Actuator) AF system that is claimed to quickly and accurately move the focusing group for fast focus switching and quick tracking of fast-moving subjects. The lens also offers a 1:2 maximum magnification ratio at the 70mm position for close-up shooting. At the wide end of the lens, the magnification is 1:3 and it is 1:4 at the telephoto end.
It provides up to 6 stops of image stabilization at 16mm and 4.5 stops at 300mm.
The lens weighs just 630g / 1.39 lb and it has a 67mm front filter diameter.
The optical design consists a series of low dispersion glass elements and four aspherical elements. Sigma claims that the lens has impressive aberration correction, high sharpness and clarity, and accurate color rendering throughout the zoom and focus ranges. The optical design has also been tested and adjusted to resist flare and minimize ghosting in a variety of lighting conditions. Focus breathing is also said to be well-controlled.
