Fujifilm showed the finished VF-GFXC2 electronic viewfinder at IBC 2026, the EVF for the GFX ETERNA 55 that’s been asked about since the camera launched with a monitor only. Fujifilm previewed a 3D-printed mockup of it at IBC last year specifically to gather feedback on form factor and functionality before finalizing the design. We talked to Fujifilm’s Mark about what changed and what’s still unconfirmed.
What it is
The VF-GFXC2 is built around a native 4:3 panel, matching the GFX ETERNA 55’s open-gate sensor so the finder shows the full frame rather than a cropped 16:9 slice. A dedicated display button toggles between a full-frame view and a slightly pulled-back view with shooting data around the edges, without changing the underlying 4:3 capture. Two separate buttons are fully programmable, set to whatever function the operator wants (Mark had one set to a focus check and one set to toggle the waveform). Mark described the housing as a one-piece aluminum build, compact enough to keep the camera’s small-body-for-its-sensor-size proportions intact.

Born from a 3D-printed mockup
Fujifilm knew an EVF was coming when the GFX ETERNA 55 launched with a monitor-only setup, and showed a 3D-printed mockup at IBC the following year specifically to collect feedback on form factor, features, and functionality before locking the design. What’s shown at IBC 2026 is described as the final version, running on beta firmware, not yet on sale.
Trade-off: EVF or monitor, not both
The VF-GFXC2 connects through the same proprietary cable used by the camera’s monitor, carrying power, data, and signal over one connection. That simplicity comes with a catch: you have to choose between running the EVF or the monitor, not both at once, since it’s a single port.
Compared to Fujifilm’s GFX 100 II EVF
Mark said the panel builds on Fujifilm’s existing EVF for the GFX 100 II, a design well-regarded in the market for its resolution, adapted here into what he described as a considerably more robust housing built for cinema production use.
Price & availability
Nothing is officially confirmed. Fujifilm’s own release only commits to availability “during 2026.” Mark, speaking personally rather than officially, guessed a price under $2,000, but was explicit that this isn’t confirmed and could change once Fujifilm finalizes pricing.
