At IBC 2026 in Amsterdam, Wise announced its new CFexpress 4.0 Type B MK-IV series. The new lineup introduces a specialized dual VPG certification, designed to be backwards compatible with current camera systems as well as next-generation cinema cameras that haven’t been released.

While higher VPG certifications represent peak performance, they do not
guarantee compatibility with systems designed around earlier standards. To solve this issue, the Wise Type B MK-IV series features dual certifications (VPG400 & VPG800 for 512GB; VPG400 & VPG1600 for 1TB, 2TB, 4TB). To my knowledge, no other CFexpress Type B cards on the market feature a VPG1600 rating.

The new cards will be available in 512GB, 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB capacities. They have a claimed maximum read speed of 3700 MB/s, maximum write speed of 3000 MB/s (512GB), 3200 MB/s (1TB), and 3400 MB/s (2TB/4TB), and a sustained write speed of 900 MB/s (512GB), 1800 MB/s (1TB), and 3300 MB/s (2TB/4TB).

According to Wise, the Type B MK-IV series is built for the demands of continuous 8K and 12K RAW cinematography. Standard CFexpress 4.0 cards often push chips to their limits, generating intense heat that can lead to dropped frames. To eliminate this risk, Wise has pioneered the integration of a low-power chip architecture. By re-engineering internal processing efficiency, this chip is claimed to reduce power consumption and heat generation by nearly 45% compared to conventional PCIe Gen4 media. This thermal headroom is said to effectively eliminate the threat of thermal throttling during extended recordings.
