Sony has introduced three new APS-C lenses for E-mount cameras. The new lenses are the E 10-20mm f/4 PZ G, E 15mm f/1.4 G, and the ultra-wide prime E 11mm f/1.8.

These lenses clearly hint that new Sony APS-C mirrorless hybrids will be released. It is interesting to see the reemergence of A`PS-C and super 35 after the big industry push towards higher resolutions and bigger sensors.

The E 10-20mm f/4 PZ G lens is claimed to be the world’s smallest and lightest, ultra-wide angle, constant F4 APS-C power zoom lens. The lens retains a constant length throughout the zoom range and it looks to be a decent wide-angle solution for video shooters.

Key features

  • E-Mount Lens/APS-C Format
  • 15-30mm (35mm Equivalent)
  • Aperture Range: f/4 to f/22
  • Power Zoom Mechanism; Internal Zoom
  • Dual Linear AF Motors; Internal Focus
  • Suppressed Focus Breathing
  • ED and Aspherical Elements
  • Dust- and Moisture-Resistant Design
  • Rounded 7-Blade Diaphragm

Three aspherical elements are ideally positioned to help suppress field curvature and astigmatism, both of which are common problems in ultra-wide-angle lenses. The optical path also includes two ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass elements that are claimed to effectively subdue chromatic aberration. An ED aspherical element further contributes to high resolution to the image edges.

The minimum autofocus distance is 8 ” / 20cm, with a maximum magnification of 0.14x, while the minimum manual focus distance is 5″ to 6.7″ / 13cm to 17cm with a maximum magnification of 0.18x.

The lens uses two linear motors for focus drive, and it is claimed to deliver fast, quiet AF. Sony also states that the new lens has reduced focus breathing.

The E PZ 10-20mm F4 G features a new electronic power zoom system with adjustable zoom speed. The lens can be used with Sony E-mount cameras and it is even compatible with remote controls.

The lens is 20% lighter than its predecessor, making it the smallest and lightest lens in its class with a total weight of just 6.3 ozs / 178g. The lens has a focus ring, zoom ring and zoom lever. There is also a customizable focus hold button and focus mode switch. Users can attach 62mm screw-on filters, such as variable ND filters. The lens has also been designed to be dust and moisture resistant[iii] to provide extra reliability.

The E 10-20mm f/4 PZ G Lens will be available in July for $750.00 USD.

E 15mm F1.4 G

The E 15mm F1.4 G is a fast, lightweight wide-angle prime lens.

Key features

  • E-Mount Lens/APS-C Format
  • 22.5mm (35mm Equivalent)
  • Aperture Range: f/1.4 to f/16
  • Super ED, ED, and Aspherical Elements
  • Dual Linear AF Motors; Internal Focus
  • Min. Focusing Distance: 6.7″
  • Suppressed Focus Breathing
  • Dust- and Moisture-Resistant Design
  • Physical Aperture Ring; De-Click Switch
  • Rounded 7-Blade Diaphragm

The lens utilizes three aspherical elements in an advanced optical design to effectively compensate for distortion and deliver excellent corner-to-corner resolution, despite the lens’ wide 15 mm angle of view. The addition of one ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass element and one Super ED glass element are said to effectively suppress chromatic aberration.

The 15mm F1.4 has a minimum focusing distance of 6.7″ / 17cm and a maximum magnification of 0.15x when manual focus is used.

The E 15mm F1.4 G uses Sony’s latest lens technology which is claimed to reduce focus breathing. It also supports the breathing compensation function provided in compatible Alpha series bodies.

A Linear Response MF (manual focus) ensures that the focus ring responds directly and linearly to subtle control when focusing manually.

The lens weighs 7.7 ozs / 219g and it is only 2.6″ / 66.6 mm in diameter and 2.74″s / 69.5mm in length. It has an aperture ring that can be set to provide click steps or a clickless depending on your requirements. A focus hold button and focus mode switch are also provided.

The E 15mm F1.4 G is designed with dust and moisture resistance.

The E 15mm F1.4 G will be available in July for approximately $748.00 USD.

E 11mm F1.8

The E 11mm F1.8 was designed specifically for Vlogging. It features three aspherical elements and three ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass elements. The aspherical lenses are carefully positioned to compensate for distortion and deliver excellent corner-to-corner resolution. The addition of ED glass is said to further suppress chromatic aberration and effectively reduce color fringing.

Key features

  • E-Mount Lens/APS-C Format
  • 16.5mm (35mm Equivalent)
  • Aperture Range: f/1.8 to f/16
  • Dual Linear AF Motors; Internal Focus
  • Min. Focusing Distance: 4.7″
  • Suppressed Focus Breathing
  • Dust- and Moisture-Resistant Design
  • Rounded 7-Blade Diaphragm
Screenshot 2022 06 03 at 2 01 49 PM

The lens has a minimum focusing distance of 4.7″ / 12cm and a maximum magnification of 0.2x. It weighs 6.4 ozs / 181g and it is only 2.6″ / 66mm in diameter and 2.26″ / 57.5mm in length.

The 11mm F1.8 has a focus hold button and focus mode switch. An alternative function chosen by the user can be assigned to the focus hold button from the body menu. The E 11mm F1.8 also accepts front filters, which is a feature that is often lacking on ultra-wide-angle lenses.

E 11mm F1.8 will also be available in July for approximately $548.00 USD.
