Yesterday we showed you Fotodiox’s new FlapJack Studio XL light, and today they have another announcement with the unveiling of the FlapJack Bi-Colour 1.5 x 1.5.

Fotodiox’s latest offering comes in a powerful 18” square, where as all their other FlapJack lights are round. I guess they had to stick with calling it a FlapJack despite it being square, as the Fotodiox Waffle doesn’t quite have the same ring to it.

The FlapJack 1.5×1.5 has built in barndoors to shape and control the light, and it is also fully dimmable, with adjustable color temperature through both manual and DMX remote control. You can also attach a V-lock battery and use the light without main power if need be.

The compact FlapJack can be mounted practically anywhere. You can use the mounting yoke to attach the light to any 5/8″ light stud. The yoke is also removable, revealing two built-in 1/4-20″ mounting points, letting you attach the FlapJack directly to a tabletop tripod, or lighting clamp. According to Fotodiox the lights are so lightweight, you can can mount them with velcro, cord, or even tape.

The FlapJack Bi-Colour 1.5 x 1.5 is now available for $649.95US. Fotodiox’s latest offering is up against some stiff competition though with so many 1×1 style LED panel lights already available on the market. Its physical size will also make it harder for travelling shooters to take it on the road.

    I’d buy a waffle light.

I hope we see more lights light this. Really soft light, in a thin panel, bi-color, with very high CRI/TLCI ratings. Trying to diffuse a tradition LED panel is a pain, and often I find 5600K to be a little too harsh (or blue). Soft, warm light seems to feel the most natural to me.
