US bespoke lens maker Duclos has announced a new specialty optic made primarily for drone and VR applications that requires exacting precision and a 180° field of view. The 8mm f/4 Fisheye lens uses a minimalist design and features fixed focus for robust, and reliable operation.

The aperture of the lens is controlled electronically through an active Canon EF mount. Changes can be made directly from the camera which makes it easier to use for remote operation. The focus is fixed at hyperfocal distance for a range of 1.5’ (3.81cm) to infinity. There is also a dome front cap to help protect the glass from being scratched or damaged.

The new 8mm “Pod Lens” from Duclos Lenses is available immediately at a price of $4,995. The lens is definitely targeting higher end applications and it will be interesting to see just how good the optical quality is once test footage starts to emerge.
