Interbee 2015: Azden prototype on-camera microphone

As well as their new wireless microphone kit, Azden were also showing a prototype on-camera mic at this year’s Interbee show.

The unit offers the ability to switch between mono and stereo pickup patterns, which could be useful if you’re switching between recording say voxpops and b-roll – you’ll be able to get a tighter pickup if you’re recording a talking head and a wider stereo image for cutaway shots.

There’s a coldshoe mount for attaching to your camera and a +20dB pad to maximise sound quality on the less-than-stellar preamps you find in DSLR-style cameras.

Final release date hasn’t been determined yet, but Azden are aiming for January next year, at a price of ‘under $250 US.’
