Convergent Design update Odyssey recorder firmware

By associate editor Elliot Smith:

Convergent Design are releasing an update to their popular Odyssey line of 4K-capable recorders, bringing the Odyssey7, 7Q and 7Q+ to firmware version 2015.5

The Convergent Design Odyssey 7Q+

There’s a long list of features, headlined by expanded support for a range of LUT presets for monitoring a flat picture. The LUTted picture can also be routed out of the Odyssey unit (with or without the LUT applied) for transmission elsewhere.

The Odyssey’s display will also show desqueezed anamorphic footage, a function we’ve also seen added to the Atomos Shogun in the past few days.

There are also enhanced exposure tools and what Convergent are calling ‘Safe Eject at power down,’ which sounds like it could be a nice way to reassure users they’re not going to lose any data when they power the unit off.

The firmware is available now from the Convergent Design website and the full list of enhancements is below. As ever it’s great to see a manufacturer working to add features and fix bugs after a hardware release – is there anything you’re still waiting for the Convergent team to add to your Odyssey? Let us know below…
