Driftwood productions, ARRI EI Zone v2.0 is now a OFX plugin. The new version adds several new features and improvements over its predecessor.

Version 2.0 rebuilds the ARRI EI Map DCTL as a GPU plugin for Mac and Windows. It corrects the ALEXA 35 shadow zones at EI 1280 and above, which version 1.5 had taken from the ALEXA 265 table, and adds new display and legend options.

New features

  • Proper legal-range (SDI) tables, instead of rescaling.
  • Background options: ARRI greyscale, original image or dimmed.
  • Zone opacity, one switch per zone to isolate a level, and zebra stripes for the two clipping zones.
  • A legend as a bottom strip, side panel or full screen.
  • A camera and EI label in the corner.

Fixes over the DCTL version

  • The ALEXA 35 shadow zones (blue and purple) were improved
  • The legend’s “/” and “%” characters were drawn back to front.
  • Some users reported superwhites and crushed blacks fell back to grey; they now stay red and purple.

ARRI EI Zone

If you are not familiar with the ARRI EI Zone plugin it is a False Color Exposure Index DCTL for LogC3 and LogC4 users within Davinci Resolve Studio. This works verbatim as to how it works in-camera. It allows ARRI users can check their clips across the edit and grade, matching the metadata of their ingest to post-production.

The OFX plugin emulates ARRI’s native six-zone false-color overlay with claimed pixel-perfect accuracy. ARRI EI Zone shows every highlight, midtone, and shadow with color cues, so DOPs, camera assistants, and colorists can instantly verify clipping, mid-gray skin tones, or noise-floor hotspots directly in the Resolve timeline.

True ARRI Log-C Compatibility: Supports LogC3 (Alexa Classic, Amira, GH series), LogC4-A35 (Alexa 35) and LogC4-A265 (Alexa 65), ensuring thresholds match in-camera false-color exactly.

Unified Exposure Index (160–6400): Select any EI from 160 to 6400 with a single “Unified EI” slider. For LogC4 users, an optional “Use Independent EI” mode locks to EI 400 for consistent highlight and shadow zones.

Six Precise False-Color Zones: Automatically buckets each pixel by its Log-C luminance into:

  1. Red (~1/3 stop below clipping)
  2. Yellow (~2/3 stop below clipping)
  3. Pink (~1 stop above 18% middle-gray)
  4. Green (18% middle-gray)
  5. Blue (edge of shadow detail)
  6. Purple (noise floor).

On-Screen Legend & Character Rendering: Toggle a full-screen, six-row color key with crisp 5×7 pixel alphanumeric characters; legend text (e.g., “1/3 STOP BELOW CLIPPING,” “NOISE FLOOR”) remains centered and perfectly legible at any resolution.

Legal-Range Clamping & Greyscale Mode: Optionally clamp input to 10-bit legal (64–940) before zone calculations, or render out-of-zone pixels as neutral gray for focused exposure analysis.
