0n8mil, a London-based 8mm and 16mm Film Sales, Processing and Scanning company, has shown its new re8mil reloadable Super 8
cartridge.

Re8mil is claimed to be the world’s first daylight reloadable Super 8 system, representing a far greener way to shoot Super 8 and bringing the overall cost down with refills made available exclusively from on8mil.

How it works is that you simply purchase a sealed supply magazine preloaded with 50 ft of film. You then thread the film through Re8mil’s transport path in daylight, with no darkroom or changing bag required.
Once you have finished shooting, you remove the spool and return it (along with the used magazine) to the On8mil lab for processing. The lab refurbishes and recycles the magazine and spool for continued use.
This latest build features a precision-engineered brass shell and pressure plate, with UV-cured resin chassis and aluminium spool baseplate.
0n8mil will be showcasing re8mil on Friday 13th march at ’27th dresdner schmalfilmtage 2026′.

Super 8 is a niche small-gauge film format invented by Eastman Kodak in 1965. It was designed for making home movies, and even to this day, it is still a beloved format. The biggest problem with Super 8 is that it is a single-use cartridge system, making it wasteful and expensive to produce.
