Sony has announced the ECM-AX10, a spatial audio USB-C mic featuring four omnidirectional electret condenser capsules that is capable of for capturing everything from stereo and binaural audio to full spatial audio recording from Ambisonics for immersive playback on YouTube with Eclipsa Audio.

It features a built-in accelerometer that detects the mic’s orientation and adjusts accordingly. The ECM-AX10 sports numerous features including switchable noise-cut and low-cut filters, auto gain control, and a dedicated ATT switch. A dedicated SELFIE switch adjusts sound orientation for front-facing video shooting, ensuring proper alignment.
Using advanced spatial audio processing, it captures balanced, positional sound across the full frequency range, to encode clear audio with accurate 3D sound placement, allowing listeners feel like they are right there. Users can toggle between Spatial and Stereo Modes with dedicated buttons.
For clear audio in loud environments, there is a switchable noise cut filter that is claimed to effectively removes unwanted background noise. A separate low-cut filter rolls off low frequencies, like wind, air conditioning, and other vibrations, to reduce muddiness.
A 3.5mm headphone output enables direct, zero-latency monitoring. Further control is available from the Sony Spatial Audio Video Tool app.
The ECM-AX10 includes a windscreen, an extension cable, and a shoe-mount mic holder for cameras.

The Sony ECM-AX10 is now available to pre-order for $249.99 USD. It is scheduled to start shipping on October 19th.
