At IBC 2026 in Amsterdam, Viltrox was showing a prototype of its upcoming Viltrox NexusFocus F1 Generation 2. The Generation 2 version is a follow-up to the Viltrox NexusFocus F1 PL-to-Sony E-mount adapter that came to market earlier in the year.
While the NexusFocus F1 adapter worked well, it was a little difficult to set up and configure, and there were a few quirks. Viltrox has listened to customer feedback, and the Generation 2 version is claimed to be easier to configure and use.
Viltrox has also done away with cabling altogether, and the new motors feature a removable and rechargeable battery. If you don’t want to use the battery, you can still power and connect it via USB-C. The Generation 2 Motors are backward compatible with the original NexusFocus F1 adapter, and conversely, the motors from the original version will also work with the Generation 2 adapter, and conversely, the motors from the original version will also work with the Generation 2 adapter.
Viltrox has also added more lenses to the lens database, but you can also still add your own. The company has also come up with an updated version of the app.
If you are not familiar with the NexusFocus F1 adapter, through the lens adapter mount, Viltrox motors can receive and translate that autofocus information directly from the camera sensor. Essentially, when you touch the back LCD screen on the camera, the AF system sends the same information to the lens motors as it would to a native E-mount AF lens. This allows for full AF tracking, eye detection, etc.
Pricing & Availability
The Viltrox NexusFocus F1 Generation 2 should be available before the end of the year, and Viltrox told me it should be more affordable than the original.
