Hide-a-mic brought its Re:pose acoustic noise reducer to IBC 2026, a small isolator built for shotgun microphones on a boom pole, designed to cut handling noise and low-frequency rumble between the mic’s suspension and whatever it’s mounted to, the boom itself, a car rig mount, or a stage floor stand. We spoke with Hide-a-mic owner Eric Leek, who designed it out of his own frustration as a working production sound mixer.
What it is
Eric said the idea came from working with figure-eight (MS) microphones on a boom, which he found were especially prone to handling noise. He noticed most suspensions only isolate the microphone at the top mount, with nothing isolating the connection between the boom and the suspension itself.
Re:pose sits in that gap: two threaded ends that don’t touch each other directly, floating instead in sound-insulating silicone, so vibration traveling up the pole is damped before it reaches the mic.

Where it’s useful beyond the boom
Eric pointed to two use cases beyond boom operating: car rigs, where low-frequency rumble transmitted from the vehicle into the mic can trigger a limiter before dialogue even starts, and stage or plant mics, where footstep vibration travels through the floor into the mic stand. In both cases, Re:pose damps the low end mechanically rather than relying on a low-cut filter that would also affect the wanted signal.
