Impact’s Keygrip line has been building a reputation as a budget-friendly alternative to pro-level priced light stands and grip.
The Impact KeyGrip product lineup is a modern, high-end series of heavy-duty studio light stands introduced in April 2026 by the studio equipment brand Impact, a house brand widely distributed and marketed by B&H Photo Video.
I’m not just talking about light stands. Impact Keygrip has a pretty decent line of arms, rolling stands, extensions, and more.
This is a spotlight covering of three Impact Keygrip products from B&H, starting with the Impact Keygrip High Combo 2-Stage Stand (11.5′), Keygrip Combo Lollipop Grip Head, and the Keygrip Pro Vari-Angle Caster Set. Plus, we will include a giveaway that includes all three! How cool is that!
While many readers here on Newsshooter are well-versed in lighting and grip, this B&H Intro to Grip Equipment is an excellent walkthrough of the many options and how to use them. I have a bit of a passion for grip. Each piece of kit helps put lights in the perfect position. We have so many great products to work with and a little creativity goes a long way to get that perfect setup.
Impact Keygrip High Combo Stand

If you have larger, heavier lights or like to use arms and extensions, a beefy light stand is a must-have in your grip kit. The Combo stand offers versatility, and an 11.5′ combo stand is one of the most common pieces of grip gear on any set, whether you’re holding a light, flag, slider, or monitor on a high mount.
It’s a category with many established players, such as Matthews Studio Equipment, Kupo, Modern Studio Equipment, and Avenger, to name a few, so the questions worth asking are whether Impact cut corners to hit a lower price and whether the build holds up in actual production use.

Standout Features
The Impact combo head is the part Impact talks up the most, and for good reason. It pairs a spring-loaded, retractable 5/8″ baby pin with a 1-1/8″ junior receiver, so you can rig the widest range of heads, flags, and fixtures without swapping hardware. The junior receiver uses a teardrop-shaped opening that seats the pin at three points of contact, rather than relying solely on friction, the same approach high-end grip gear uses to eliminate wobble at the connection point.
The brake castings are custom-machined aluminum with a hexagonal profile, which both looks distinct and provides more surface area to grip when locking or releasing risers under load.

The leveling leg is a genuinely useful feature on this stand, or any stand, for that matter. Once you have a stand with this feature, you will want it on others, too. I use C-stands a lot, and the ability to raise a leg has saved my bacon on many shoots. With a light stand that has a much wider spread, the leveling base is even more handy.
The 11.5′ stand is exactly the kind of rig that ends up planted on stairs, curbs, or uneven exterior ground, and being able to level one leg instead of fighting the whole stand is a real time-saver and safer to use.
At 38.4 lb, this stand is noticeably heavier than some competitors, but it’s a trade-off rather than a flaw. The extra mass in the steel riser sections and legs adds stability at full extension with a heavy fixture up top, though it also means this isn’t the stand you grab when you’re trying to save weight.
How It Compares on Price
Impact’s positioning in the combo stand category isn’t a huge savings once you put it next to the established names at the same height and load rating:
| Stand | Max Height | Load Capacity | Weight | Price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Impact Keygrip High Combo 2-Stage Stand | 11.5′ | 88 lb | 38.4 lb | $249.00 |
| Matthews Digital Combo Stand | 11′ | 88 lb | 22 lb | $329.65 |
| Avenger Combo Steel Stand 35 | 11.5′ | 88.2 lb | 26.5 lb | $424.95 |
On paper, the Impact undercuts the Avenger by $175 and is slightly cheaper than the Matthews, while matching both on load capacity. The Matthews is noticeably lighter at 22 lb, which matters if you’re hand-carrying multiple stands, but Impact’s heavier build is the kind of tradeoff that can work in your favor when you want a stand that plants itself with potentially less sandbagging. For safety, you should always use sandbags. Worth noting that the Avenger 35 was temporarily out of stock at the time of writing, with an expected restock date, which is its own argument for having a backup option in this category.
The Impact Keygrip Pro Combo Stand features rectangular legs measuring 25 x 25 mm and is fully compatible with Matthews Combo stands and other square 1″ leg tubing.
Impact KEYGRIP Pro Vari-Angle 4″ Caster Set for 1″ Legs

If you have a combo stand without wheels, this option adds portability. Combo stands are heavy, and the lights you mount on them are, too. Personally, I will not buy a combo stand without wheels. It makes life on set so much easier. You can roll the stand to the next scene instead of breaking it down. This saves time and physical effort. Maybe in a studio space, they are not as necessary, but I would still opt to have them.
Impact KEYGRIP Pro Vari-Angle 4″ Caster Set Key features
- Set of Three Vari-Angle Casters
- Fits Stands with 1″ Square Leg Tubing
- Adjusts to Match Light Stand’s Leg Angle
- 4″ Smooth-Rolling Locking Casters
- Integrated Bubble Level on Each Caster
I have added wheels to a combo stand before and had mixed results. Usually, sticking to the same brand as the stand works well, but these offer the added benefit of adjustability. Not all stands have the same leg spread/angle, which will affect the angle. That is the secret sauce for the Impact Keygrip Pro Vari-Angle caster.

The included level on each caster takes the guesswork out. The visual level on each caster means a smooth-rolling stand. If one is off the stand, it will not be level and also will not roll smoothly

The Impact KEYGRIP Pro Vari-Angle features a variable-angle option for precise wheel positioning. This makes the casters much more versatile and compatible when used with other brands’ stands. As long as the stand uses a square-tube design and fits into the adapter, you are good to go. Simply adjust the spread angle, and it rolls around with ease. If you change the spread of the legs you will have to readjust the angle of the casters, but this is a good thing as it makes them more compatible.

One feature I like a lot is that the locking knob uses an internal insert with a larger round surface area. It will not dig into the leg with the sharp, bare end of a screw. If you want to avoid marring the leg, you can add a small piece of gaffer tape to its side. It is not necessary to overtighten the casters on the leg.

The degree markings are clear, so you can make a precise adjustment that can be repeated on the other two casters. Takes the guesswork out.

Overall, these casters are very nice. They have a solid build that matches the heavy-duty design of a combo stand. The casters have a high-quality feel to them and should hold up to heavy on-set use. The casters roll very smoothly making the heavey duty stand much more manageable on set.
I like having options, and a rolling combo stand is a good one. The only downside is they do stick out a bit more than stands that have casters included.
Impact KEYGRIP Combo Lollipop Grip Head (4.5″, Silver)

Ah, the tasty Lollipop! If you have a Combo stand and need a large griphead, then the Lollipop is a great option. Not only do you get a large grip head, but you also keep the combo receiver with a retractable baby pin.
The Impact EYGRIP Combo Lollipop Grip Head 4.5″ is well built, and all the lockdowns are nice and tight to secure the load. These come in handy when you want to add an arm and diffusion, as well as use the baby pin or junior receiver, or use the grip head to clamp a frame or butterfly that uses tube construction. Some heavy-duty frames have ears that work great in the large grip head to hold the frame in place. So many uses, and some you probably didn’t think about until on set. The Grip Head has both 5/8, and 3/8″ Holes. A solid build at a good price of $56.
Impact KEYGRIP Combo Lollipop Grip Head Key features
- Junior Receiver and Retractable Baby Pin
- True 4.5″ Lollipop Head
- Grip Head with 5/8 and 3/8″ Holes
- Molded Steel Handle
- Steel Junior Pin Fits in Junior Receiver
