FUJIFILM has announced its new XF 400mm f/4.5 R LM OIS WR Lens that was designed for wildlife, sports, etc. It is being touted as a lightweight super telephoto prime lens with a constant f/4.5 aperture.

The lens weighs in at 2.74 lb / 1.24 kg and is 9.4″ / 239.5 mm in length. According to FUJIFILM, the lens design was optimized for easy handheld use.
This X-mount lens covers APS-C-sized sensors, and it has a 95 mm front filter diameter and a minimum focusing distance of 108.3″ / 275.1 cm.

The optical design consists of 21 elements in 14 groups, and there are 9 aperture blades. A combination of four extra-low dispersion, two super extra-low dispersion elements, and Super EBC coating is claimed to provide accurate colors, strong contrast, and sharp detail.
It features 5.5 stops of optical image stabilization, and there is an Arca-type compatible tripod collar foot for mounting on tripods and monopods.

According to FUJIFILM, the powerful subject detection algorithms in X-series cameras and the linear motor autofocus system in the lens deliver fast and accurate performance in near silence. Additionally, the lens features built-in focus presets.

The lens is fully compatible with the separately available 1.4x and 2x teleconverters, boosting the reach to 560mm and 800mm, respectively, and FUJIFILM claims that there is no loss in image quality.
It features a weather-resistant construction that protects the lens against dust and moisture, enabling worry-free use in inclement conditions when used with a weather-resistant X-series camera body.
