If you have ever wondered which companies are licensing the Sony E-mount, then you are in luck. On the Sony Japan website, you can actually see this information.
With so many third-party companies utilizing proprietary mounts, there have been a lot of legal battles over the past few years. You can’t just decide to put a proprietary mount on a lens without licensing it, and we have seen companies such as Canon stop other companies from using the RF mount, and Nikon was recently in a battle with Viltrox over them using the Z mount.
There are a lot of manual-focus-only lenses that utilize the E-mount, and perhaps licensing may only apply to anything that has electronic communication.
