Tamron has announced its ultra-wide full-frame 12-20mm f/2.8 Di III for Sony E-mount and Nikon Z-Mount. Tamron claims that the lens delivers high performance in a compact and lightweight design.

The lens utilizes Tamron’s high-speed VXD linear motor mechanism to deliver what is claimed to be rapid, silent, and highly accurate autofocus performance for both stills and video applications.
The lens weighs in at 1.3 lb / 589g, and the minimum focusing distance is 7.1″ at 12mm.
The optical design consists of 17-elements in 12 groups, with a 12-blade aperture. Tamron claims it has low distortion, chromatic aberration, and sagittal coma flare.

There is a built-in USB-C port that allows use with the Tamron Lens Utility software for advanced functions. As far as controls are concerned, they include an AF/MF switch, a focus set button, and a mechanical zoom lock. There is also a de-click/click aperture switch.

The lens includes a rear sheet-filter holder and an integrated flower-shaped lens hood. It also features a moisture-resistant construction and a protective front fluorine coating guard against adverse elements.

The Tamron 12-20mm f/2.8 Di III is now available to pre-order for $1,799 USD. It is expected to start shipping on August 27th.
