NiSi 65 Prime 16mm T2.9

NiSi has announced its new 65 Prime 16mm T2.9 lens, the first lens in a new series that delivers an image circle close to 65mm in diameter, enabling coverage of ARRI ALEXA 65 / 265 when shooting Open Gate.

Launching with a 16mm makes a ton of sense, as there are not a lot of wide focal length options available that cover 65mm sensors.

The NiSi 65 Prime 16mm T2.9 is compatible with a wide range of modern large-format camera systems, such as the FUJIFILM GFX ETERNA 55 and the Blackmagic Design URSA Cine 17K 65. According to NiSi, the lens has not been tested for compatibility with film cameras

NiSi claims that the advanced optical design and precision aspherical elements deliver outstanding resolution from center to edge across the large image circle, while maintaining a lightweight, compact form.

The lens weighs just 846g / 1.86 lbs, and it has a 95mm front diameter.

The company also states that across the entire image circle, the lens delivers APO-level chromatic aberration control, and that even when used wide open, both axial and lateral chromatic aberrations are kept to a minimum.

The lens has a minimum focus distance of 25cm / 10″.

The lens was also designed to minimize visible barrel and pincushion distortion. Straight lines are claimed to remain straight from centre to edge.

Like other newer NiSi cine lenses, the 65 Prime features luminescent markings that make it easier to locate and adjust the lens in dark environments.

Pricing & Availability

The lens is available to pre-order for $2,799 USD.
