Canon has announced upcoming firmware updates for the C400, C80, C70, C50, and R5C Cinema EOS Cameras, with a suite designed to enhance workflow consistency and image quality across the Cinema EOS product line.
One of the most interesting new features is the addition of USB-C Gimbal Control (EOS C400, C80, C50), where users will be able to control the following settings via their gimbal:
- Start/Stop recording
- Iris adjustments
- Shutter speed
- ISO settings
- Focus control
Major Firmware Highlights
- Auto Exposure Ramping Compensation (EOS C400): This feature uses lens metadata to automatically adjust gain in real-time, preventing image brightness loss when zooming on certain lenses where iris ramping occurs
- USB-C Gimbal Control (EOS C400, C80, C50): Allows users to control essential settings like start/stop, iris, shutter speed, ISO, and focus directly via a connected gimbal
- Lens Compatibility: Added support for the newly announced Cinevo 40-1200 lens across the EOS C400, C80, C50, R5C, and C70
- Playback & Streaming Improvements: Includes view assist during playback for the C50 and automatic reconnection for SRT streaming if the connection is lost on the C400, C80, and C50
- Enhanced User Interface: A new “Level” display on select models changes color when the camera is perfectly leveled, speeding up setup for gimbal and tripod work.
The new Cinema EOS firmware will be on display at NAB 2026, in Canon’s booth #C3825, held in Las Vegas, Nevada, from April 19-22.
