The KIPON Baveyes PL-LPL 1.3x image field expander is the world’s first 1.3x expander for 65mm medium format cinema cameras.

The KIPON Baveyes PL-LPL 1.3x image field expander transforms PL mount full-frame cinema lenses into a 65mm medium format cinema camera lens. KIPON states that the expander maintains the quality of the original lens.

Key features

  • Enhanced Image Circle: Effortlessly expand the image circle of Full Frame PL lenses to cover medium format and large format sensors, unlocking the true potential of your lenses.
  • Maximum Lens Compatibility: Specifically designed for lenses with a maximum aperture of f/1.4 and a PL-mount depth of up to 20mm, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of professional optics.
  • Precision Engineering: Crafted with high-grade materials for reliable performance and optimal image quality. The robust construction guarantees durability even in the most demanding shooting environments.
  • Optical Design: Features an advanced construction of 5 lens elements in 4 groups, ensuring exceptional optical performance and minimal distortion across the expanded image circle.
  • Versatile Application: Whether you’re working on a high-resolution still photography project or a cinematic masterpiece, the BAVEYES 1.3x 65mm Expander delivers the adaptability you need for exceptional results.

KIPON has already developed three solutions for medium format cinema cameras, such as the ARRI ALEXA 265, FUJIFILM ETERNA, and BMCC 17K, which go a long way towards allowing a lot more existing lenses to be used on these cameras.

Price & Availability

The KIPON Baveyes PL-LPL 1.3x image field expander is now available for $3,800 USD.

KIPON states that with its extensive experience in optical engineering and precision manufacturing, the CINESPEED65 was built to meet the needs of the next generation of cinematographers. This lens is optimized for medium format cinema cameras, and it is claimed to deliver unmatched depth, clarity, and cinematic character.

The first lens in the series is a 65mm T1.4. It is based on the Hasselblad 110mm T2, and KIPON is incorporating its expander.

With quite a few medium format (larger sensor, probably being the more correct terminology) coming out soon, there is going to be a demand for optics to cover those sensors.

KIPON will be expanding its CINESPEED65 lineup in the future and adding more focal lengths.

KIPON OCUS high-end tilt-shift adapter

KIPON recently announced its new high-end Tilt-Shift adapter brand OCUST, which was designed to meet the needs of professional photographers.

Initially, there will be two series of Tilt-Shift adapters, corresponding to full-frame mirrorless cameras and medium-format cameras from Fujifilm and Hasselblad.

The tilt axis lies on the image plane: so there is no forced shifting when tilting that then needs to be re-corrected backwards. This reduces the amount of mechanical tilt and shift capability actually needed.

Key features

  • Tilt range: symmetric ±7 degrees
  • Shift range: symmetric ±10mm with geared drive
  • Two separate endless 360-degree rotation stages, so the orientation of the shift direction can be freely selected independent of the orientation of the tilt axis
  • Positive clamp locks for all axes (tilt, shift, rotation 1, and rotation 2)
  • Light trap with wide throughput: achieves greater movement range before vignetting

There are two operational modes:

Traditional adapter (camera is stationary, lens shifts and tilts)

Parallax-free “rear standard” using optional accessory ring bracket (lens is stationary, camera shifts and tilts).  The ring bracket can be rotated to orient the shift axis as desired. Please note this rear standard accessory needs to be purchased separately.

It is compatible with cinema-lock type mounts having surrounding locking ring.

Available for the following camera mounts on the rear:

– Canon RF / (FF/APS-C)

– Sony E / (FF/APS-C)

– Leica L / (FF/APS-C)

– Nikon Z / (FF/APS-C)

– Fujifilm GFX / (MF)

– Hasselblad XCD / (MF)

The basic lens mount on the front is Canon-EF, which can be adapted to most lenses through a wide range of KIPON adapters.

The product was designed and developed in Germany and will be produced and assembled in Japan. It is expected to start shipping in April 2025. Customers who pre-order now will receive a 25% discount off the standard retail price.

PENTAX 67-GFX 0.62x – Baveyes Focal Reducer

IMG 0185

KIPON recently released the 0.62x optic focal reducer developed in cooperation with the Module 8 team. The optical system can convert 6×7 format lenses like Pentax 67, Hasselblad V into lenses that cover 44×33 sensor size, making lenses quite wider and can get light one and a half stops increased. This optic system was designed by Iain Neil.

The initial batch of two products (P67-GFX 0.62x / P67-LPL 0.62x) utilizing this optical system has been successfully developed. These products are specifically designed for photographers using Fujifilm GFX cameras and professional cinematographers using BMCC 17K, Alexa 65, and Fujifilm ETERNA medium format cameras. This innovation enables users to achieve ultra-high-speed performance with their medium format cameras and movie lenses, delivering exceptional results.

In addition to the highly acclaimed 0.8x optic focal reducer for Fujifilm GFX camera users, which was launched in 2021, and the newly released 1.3x expander, converting full frame lenses to cover the 65mm sensor. KIPON has introduced three innovative solutions specifically designed for medium format movie cameras. These solutions enable these advanced cameras to rapidly access a wide range of compatible lenses.

1.5 stop brighter

By reducing the focal length of the lens, P67-GFX 0.62x increases light transmission, effectively increasing the aperture. The depth of field is more blurred.

0.62x wider

P67-GFX 0.62x reduces the focal length by 0.62, the effective length becomes shorter so that the shooting range is larger. It allows the Pentax 67 lens view angle to be restored perfectly on the camera sensor.

● Features

  1. Designed by Iain Neil in Switzerland
  2. Increase the aperture 1.5 stop
  3. 0.62x wider shooting range
  4. Built in 5 groups of 7 high-quality optical glasses
  5. Focus at infinity is available

Price & Availability

The PENTAX 67-GFX 0.62x – Baveyes Focal Reducer retails for $1,180 USD.
