The SmallHD PageOS 6.0.1 Firmware Update was released in late December, but there are probably plenty of our readers who weren’t aware of this update.

This update fixes a lot of the issues that users encountered with the 6.0.0-Beta1 update that was announced last August and the 6.0 update that was released in November. I tend to only update my monitors once a stable update is available.

Improvements & Alterations

  • Function button tools may no longer be disabled via the toolbar or tool edit menu

Bugs Fixed

  • Resolved a small issue with the patch color used in Calman calibrations
  • Fixed an issue preventing the luminance slider from working on Focus OLED monitors
  • Connecting to an ALEXA Mini LF using a DHCP network connection will no longer crash the monitor
  • Fixed an issue with digits in RED® DSMC2™ camera timecode strings sometimes appearing in hexadecimal
  • Resolved an issue causing the Quantum 32 display to turn off when the active battery was removed from the Dual Battery Bracket
    • Following this change, the display will turn back on after 3 seconds
  • Fixed a UI layout issue when connecting to RED® DSMC2™ cameras
  • Resolved an issue where LUTs would not be applied correctly on some Ultra 7 Multi-View Pages
  • Resolved an instance of the calibration settings not lasting through a power cycle
  • Fixed an issue where some Cine 13 monitors would show a checkered pattern on startup
  • Resolved an issue that made the Quantum 32 display too dim after startup
  • Resolved an issue with the luminance Fine-Tune slider where changes did not take effect until exiting and then re-entering the menu
  • Resolved an issue where the Ultra 7 Multi-View Page pane may display the wrong source while being configured
  • Fixed SDI input breaking when an HDMI input is selected

The SmallHD PageOS 6 update adds powerful new capabilities to all current monitors. It features increased functionality, expanded customization, and a more streamlined, intuitive UI.

This was SmallHD’s first major PageOS upgrade in two years.

New features include Fleet Control, a redesigned Color Pipe, Wi-Fi support, Handheld Multi-view, support for new dials, expanded control of function buttons, and more.

A new Color Pipe interface gives users increased on-screen visibility to instantly review settings information and more intuitive management processes to speed up their workflow. Pomfort Livegrade integration lets users apply the tool on top of any preloaded 3D LUT in Color Pipe on their SmallHD Monitor.

For remote wireless and network monitor control, SmallHD’s Fleet Control App (which is still not available yet) can be installed on a user’s tablet or computer to control one or more monitors at the same time, allowing them to match settings, manage signal and feeds, manage LUTs and Color Pipes and control multiple PageOS Tools via Ethernet or Wi-Fi.

PageOS 6 supports Wi-Fi functionality on SmallHD monitors with off-the-shelf Wi-Fi adaptors to upgrade firmware or manage the Fleet Control App.

Custom Exposure Assist offers custom control for black clip, white clip, and middle gray for much smoother transitions than Spectrum 1 and 2 modes.

SmallHD has updated EL Zone. Ed Lachman, ASC’s intuitive stop-based exposure tool now supports wider dynamic range cameras. EL Zone works like a virtual spot meter, replacing IRE exposure values with stops.

You can map nearly every aspect of PageOS to knobs with click, turn, and capacitive touch functionality. With tools like custom exposure or crop, multiple knobs can be used simultaneously to dial in precise changes.

You will eventually be able to assign a press-and-hold capability by holding down a function button to speed up your workflow. Preview a feed or tool, quickly pull up a 1:1 pixel-zoom for precise focus, apply a pre-loaded LUT, and more.

Handheld Multi-View lets SmallHDUltra 7 Monitors display multiple feeds in multi-camera environments. Users can view feeds from HDMI, SDI, or Internal Bolt 6 simultaneously with side-by-side dual monitoring.
