At Camerimage 2024, BVK and CSI hosted a seminar at Camerimage titled “Mythbusting: Colour, Camera, Cinema.” While this presentation is long (just under 2 hours) there are some interesting points raised and I found it worth a watch.
In the presentation, the panel attempts to answer questions such as:
- Do you still believe there are pixels on a sensor, that sensors have a gamut or that one color science can be better than another?
- Have you ever insisted on shooting RAW without a solid reason?
- Do you still trust high CRI values or think that full is better than legal?
They also touch on the lack of females working in the industry which is good to see after the controversy where event founder, director and CEO Marek Żydowicz made some very sexist and inappropriate remarks that led to several people pulling their films and withdrawing from the festival.

Above there is a link to a paper entitled “Female Professionals in European Film Industry” that was published by the European Audiovisual Observatory. It is worth reading as some of the data paints a pretty grim picture of equality based on the research they conducted.
Participants included Professor Andrew Stockman, vision researcher, University College London; Dr. Charles Poynton, CSI, Canadian color scientist; Dirk Meier, BVK CSI, German colorist and lecturer; and Laurens Orij, Dutch senior colorist.
