Sony has released a software update that brings new functionality and capabilities to the Xperia PRO and Xperia PRO-I smartphones.

In both models, the External Monitor features will now include Live-streaming, Wave Form, and False Color capabilities.

The Wave Form monitor function checks exposure and RGB balance.

The False Color function assists with iris setting selections by making certain details for exposure more noticeable.

The External Monitor software update also gives the Xperia PRO extra control features when using the a1, a7S III, and a7 IV. The External Monitor feature has a trigger function for Rec/Stop available via USB-C cable and it is also able to provide status visibility on the screen including REC status, shutter speed, F-number, ISO, and EV Indication. The caveat of connecting your alpha camera just with USB-C is that you will see a reduced view of your image when outputting image overlays.

However, if you attach your camera to the Xperia PRO with both HDMI and USB-C. You can see the full-screen view, with the overlays.

This update is available as of today via a push notification to all Xperia PRO and Xperia PRO-I owners.
