Tamron has announced that they are developing the 35-150mm F2-2.8 Di III VXD lens. This has been designed specifically for full-frame Sony E-mount mirrorless cameras.

Tamron claims that the 35-150mm F2-2.8 is the first mirrorless zoom lens with a maximum wide-open aperture of F2. Yes, this is true if you are talking about full-frame lenses with a Sony E mount, but it is hardly the first mirrorless zoom lens with a fast aperture. The Canon RF 28-70mm f/2L USM Lens has been around for quite a few years and it also has a fast constant F2 aperture.

35-150mm is certainly a very handy range on a full-frame camera. The lens features a VXD (Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive) linear motor focus mechanism, that Tamron claims enables high-speed and high-precision autofocus.

The lens is compatible with the new ‘TAMRON Lens Utility’. The TAMRON Lens Utility can be operated via your computer by connecting the lens from its Connector Port using the optional TAMRON Connection Cable. Users can customize the functions and update the firmware through the lens rather than through the camera.

Price & Availability

There is no information regarding how much the lens is likely to cost, but Tamron has said that the lens will be available to purchase this year.

Tamron has developed a strong reputation for making good quality Sony E-mount lenses and this looks to be another great lens.
