Sony has announced a new Sony Wireless Shooting Grip for vloggers, filmmakers and photographers, called the GP-VPT2BT Shooting Grip.
The grip is compatible with a variety of Sony’s latest digital cameras and it connects via Bluetooth. This allows users to shoot without having cables sticking out everywhere.
The compatible Sony cameras that the grip works with are:
- α9 II
- α7R IV
- α7R III
- α7 III
- RX100 VII
- RX0 II
Firmware must be updated on cameras to ensure compatibility.
The Shooting Grip weighs 7.6 oz (215 g), and it can handle camera payloads of up to 53.0 oz (1.5 kg).
- For Select Sony Cameras with Bluetooth
- Wireless Camera Control
- Larger Grip with Integrated Controls
- Converts to Tabletop Tripod
Other features include a useful tilt feature that makes shooting vertical video easier, as well as the ability to switch from normal to self-shooting mode. Additionally, it has an adjustment wheel that can be loosened or tightened to allow the use of various compatible cameras.
The grip includes a flip button, indicator light, and lock switch, and it can be quickly changed into a tripod by expanding the bottom portion.
Price & Availability
The new GP-VPT2BT Shooting Grip with Wireless Remote Commander will retail for $139.99 USD. It is expected to be available in early February.
It will ship in February in Europe, priced at approximately €200 or £170.
This actually looks like a decent accessory. In the past, Sony has had a tendency to make some truly terrible accessories, but with the Shooting Grip it looks like they have actually come up with a product that a lot of Vloggers will probably use.
