To get the iconic sound from the DC-VX1000, Wooden Camera reverse engineered the microphone to try and match it as close as possible. They even look very similar, with a stereo pick up pattern. It mounts via a cold shoe or 1/4-20″. It has an internal battery with a 48-hour runtime and can be charged via USB-C.

You can hear what the mic sounds like compared to the original VX1000 camcorder in the sample below. There are also audio samples using other popular microphones like offerings from RØDE, Sennheiser and Panasonic’s camcorders on the VX microsite. Interestingly, they left out a number of stereo microphone options including RØDE’s Stereo VideoMic Pro.

There are no switches or audio pad settings on the microphone.
