Before you get too excited, Nikon still hasn’t released their NIKKOR Z CINEMA T1.9 VV Cinema Lenses; they are still in development. What I can tell you, though, is that the NIKKOR Z CINEMA T1.9 VV series will consist of nine lenses, including a 50mm T1.9 VV.
According to Nikon, these will be the first NIKKOR lens series to feature an image circle large enough to cover the V-RAPTOR [X] VV sensor (40.96 mm x 21.60 mm). The lenses are also claimed to feature a highly precise autofocus mechanism. The upcoming lenses are designed to be hybrid AF/MF cine lenses that can utilize the AF capabilities of Nikon and RED Z-mount cameras.
Back in May, Nikon first teased its NIKKOR Z CINEMA Cine Lenses in a short video. The video didn’t show much, and there were no details about focal lengths or any specifications.
At NAB in April, Nikon told me that the lenses will have an AF/MF switch, so they are more suitable for use with cameras like the ZR. This also clearly means that the lenses are likely to be Z-mount only, and not PL-mount.
There is still no indication about when the lenses will actually be formally announced or how much they are likely to cost.
