RED announces the 2,200 nit DSMC2 Touch 7.0″ Ultra Brite LCD Monitor

DSMC2 Touch 7.0″ Ultra-Brite LCDRED has finally announced a new monitor, the DSMC2 Touch 7.0″ Ultra-Brite LCD. Something many RED owners have requested as the current DSMC2 RED Touch 7.0″ LCD model only reaches a max of 350 nits.

The new monitor also has a slightly higher resolution of 1920×1200 (compared to 1920×1136), wider colour gamut, 1200:1 contrast ratio and the same pixel density of 323 PPI.

The new monitor features an optically-bonded touchscreen with Gorilla Glass for durability.

We’re sure many users would also want to see a cable-free version like the DSMC2 Touch 7.0″ LCD screen which also has the built-in swivel mount to rotate and lay flat from the hinge. This monitor doesn’t have a LEMO port though so it has to be mounted on the brain or via a cable relocator.

If you look at RED’s other 7.0″ monitor offering, the RED PRO Touch 7.0″ LCD, it is a similar design to the new Ultra Brite. This monitor retails for $2,950.

Because the monitor does not connect directly to the top of the DSMC2 brain via pogo pins and only has the LEMO port on the back, you will also need to use the DSMC2 LEMO Adaptor A, which retails for $195.

The rear of the screen has a number of 1/4″-20 & 3/8″-16 threads as well as the LEMO Adaptor A port.

The Ultra Brite 7″ will retail for $3,750 and comes with:

The original DSMC2 Touch 7.0″ LCD monitor retails for $2,750 so it is a $1,000 premium for the ultra bright. The RED Pro Touch 7.0″ which has a similar design to the new ultra brite retails for $2,950.

It’s a far higher price to pay for a high bright monitor, but to use any other monitor, you would have to use HDMI or SDI, which requires adding on a module, and no touch screen functionality meaning the use of the side handle or other control units.
