The Duclos Lenses 1.7x Expander lets you use Super35mm lenses on full frame or Vista Vision sensor cameras. With the number of full frame or larger digital cinema cameras increasing, you don’t neccesarily have to get rid of all your Super35 glass.

The 1.7x expander features optics that have been designed from the ground up. By using the Expander you are effectively increasing the image circle of the taking lens, providing a narrower field of view, all while maintaining the highest level of image quality. You do have to be aware that when using the expander you will loose approximately 1.5 stops of light.

The Duclos 1.7x Expander features an integrated back focus adjustment for quick, easy field tuning. No need for shimming. Designed and manufactured with high grade, anodized aluminum body and stainless steel PL mounts, the Duclos 1.7x Expander is claimed to maintain resolution throughout the field.

This is not the first time an expander has come to market. Tokina make a 1.6x expander that is available in EF to PL mount, PL to PL mount, and PL to E mount. It retails for $1899 USD.

The Duclos 1.7x Expander is available to pre-order and it retails for $6500 USD. This is certainly not cheap, but if you own a lot of very expensive Super35mm glass, then it’s probably a worth while investment.
