Fujinon have been very aggressive lately with their marketing strategy. First they announced the new E-Mount MK 18-55 T2.9 and MK 50-135 T2.9 zoom lenses, and then they proceeeded to drop $10,000US off their Cabrio 4K PL Compact Lenses. The 14-35mm Cabrio / T2.9 (ZK2.5×14), 19-90mm Cabrio / T2.9(ZK4.7×19), 85-300mm Cabrio / T2.9 -4.0 (ZK3.5×85), and the not so compact 25-300mm Cabrio / T3.5-3.85 (ZK12x25) are all included in this price reduction.

Now the company has decided to release the Fujinon XK6x20 20-120mm T3.5 Cabrio Premier PL Lens in a version without the servo motor. The normal price of the 20-120mm with the servo motor is $13999US, but for users who don’t need it, you can buy the exact same lens for $9999US without the servo motor.

This puts the 20-120mm right in line with the Zeiss 21-100mm T2.9-3.9 Lightweight Zoom as far as price is concerned. The Zeiss has a smaller focal range and a variable aperture, but it is slightly lighter than the Fujinon. The Zeiss 21-100mm weighs in at 4.4 lb / 2 kg, while the Fujinon 20-120mm is 5.3 lb / 2.4 kg.

It is unclear at this stage whether you will be able to purchase the servo motor separately, if you plan on purchasing the 20-120mm. UPDATE: According to Fujinon, you will be able to purchase the servo motor separately.

This is an interesting move from Fujinon, and it brings the lens into the under $10,000US category where it will certainly get more interest from some owner/operators.
