The Odyssey 7Q has been very popular external recorder, particularly with users of the Sony FS700. Convergent Design is now at 4K capture solutions for cameras such as the Panasonic GH4 and the Sony A7s. At Broadcast Asia in Singapore last week the Odyssey 7Q was shown hooked up to a GH4 using the DMW-YAGH Interface Unit.  At present the 7Q can only display the 4K signal from the GH4 but according to Convergent’s Mitch Gross it will soon be able to record it as well. Mitch told me they are currently testing a variety of options to allowing recording of the 4k signal from both the GH4 and the Sony a7S.  With the GH4 he said you will be able to record in a “popular codec” at 880Mb/s. The clear implication of Mitch’s statements is that a HDMI 2.0 4K signal will be recordable on the 7Q down the track – as that is the only way to output and capture 4K from the a7S.
