Tokina have been showing cinemized versions of their popular 11-16mm f2.8 lens for some time now. It was actually at last year’s NAB where we first saw what the pre-production lenses but it’s taken a whole year to be able to buy it. However the wait is over and US dealer Adorama are now taking pre-orders for the new Tokina 11-16 T3 with an anticipated April 2014 delivery.

Most interestingly the price of the EOS version has been set at a reasonable $1899. This is considerably cheaper than the third party conversions of the same lens that are available from Duclos lenses or GL Optics. A M4/3 version is also available but I can’t see an advantage on ordering this one instead of the EOS mounted one combined with a good quality M4/3 to EOS adapter.
Also available to pre-order is the cine version of the 16-28mm. This can be ordered in either EOS or PL fits for $4499 US.
Although custom conversions of the stills versions of both these lenses have already been offered by some time by third parties, it is good to see that Tokina are getting into the game and at a price that more will be able to afford. We will be sure to check them out at NAB 2014.
