SHAPE GIMBAL ISEE II : TEST 1 from SHAPE on Vimeo.

Rig manufacturer Shape are getting into the brushless gimbal market with their new ISEE II. To be released officially at NAB 2014, the gimbal is the first product in their new Shadow series. The ISEE II is a 2 axis gimbal that is designed to work as part of a shoulder rig setup. As can be seen in the video there is a grip mounted toggle controller for tilt up and down.

So far it is unclear what sort of payload this gimbal can handle. It is shown in the video with a DSLR but competing systems can handle larger cameras like the Epic or C300. It is also hard to see how an EVF or Monitor can be placed in a comfortable position when using the gimbal and it will be interesting to see what solutions Shape offer for this.

This is certainly not the first time that a gimbal has been fitted to a shoulder rig. The Gimbal Gunner and other similar systems have already been launched. However, this is the first time we are seeing this technology coming from an established shoulder rig manufacturer. Expect to see more at NAB 2014 next month.

The company claim the complete ISEE II gimbal with their shoulder mount system will start at less than $6000 US.
