We have seen Defy’s G5 gimbal several times before on this site. Considerably cheaper than the infamous MoVI M10, the G5 was originally shown at demonstrations with cameras like the Canon 5D mkIII and 1D C. Many users, myself included, wondered if the G5 could be made to work with the popular Canon C300. Defy have been tweaking the G5 and are now confident it can work with the C300, as this video shows.

This is great news for C300 owners who don’t have the budget for higher end gimbals. In the video, the G5 is shown working with a Canon 16-35 short zoom – what is unclear at this stage is whether the G5 will carry a C300 with heavier lenses like Zeiss CP2s or Canon CN-E primes with follow focus motor attached. This is something we will be sure to ask Defy when we interview them later this week at the Interbee show in Japan.

The other combination I am keen to see is the combination of brushless gimbals and the updated Canon C100 with its new Dual Pixel AF. For solo operators this may be the easiest way to get some great shots while keeping things in focus.
