By site editor Dan Chung:

Jem Schofield of theC47.com has been in touch to let me know that he is involved in producing and running The Filmmaker’s Intensive in New York this August. It may be of special interest to readers of this blog this year as it is focusing exclusively on the art and craft of documentary film making.

Below is a sample film from a previous documentary intensive:

Here is more info from Jem:
The Filmmaker’s Intensive (TFMI), is an annual two week program that takes people out of their day to day environment and focuses them on the art & science of filmmaking. This year’s program is designed specifically to allow each person that attends to learn true non-fiction, documentary filmmaking from some of the best documentary filmmakers in the industry.
Co-produced by theC47 and Manhattan Edit Workshop, TFMI 2012 will take place in the heart of New York City from August 6th through August 17th. The program will include craft based training and Master Classes from world renowned documentary filmmakers such as Chuck Workman, Susan Froemke and David Zieff. All filmmakers whose body of work is not only widely recognized but also highly regarded. They have all taught their craft for many years and will bring their their passion and knowledge of documentary filmmaking to the program.
In addition to the three days of Master Classes, the program will include sessions on camera, lighting, sound, scouting locations and shooting & conducting interviews. Sponsors for this year’s program include AbelCine, Adobe, AJA, Avenger, Creative Light, Kino Flo, Litepanels, Manfrotto, RØDE, Sekonic, Tenba, Tiffen and Zeiss.
Students will also work together to produce their own documentary films (shot in New York City), and will then edit (individually), and screen their docs as part of the program. All this plus the core TFMI team who will teach and oversee the entire intensive.
Special pricing for the program is being offered until July 4th, 2012 and financing options are available.

There are only 30 spots in this year’s intensive (which are filling up fast), so head over to www.thefilmmakersintensive.com to find out more and to apply to the program.
