shortshort takes one long uploaded video and creates vertical 9:16 cutdowns with word-by-word captions. It is aimed at users who record a lot of interviews, panels, conferences, events, etc., who need vertical deliverables for social media channels without needing to edit each one by hand.
You can upload files of up to 3 hours or 2GB in size. The transcript is produced word by word, then read as text. AI looks for passages that stand on their own and end where a sentence ends, which is why a short can run up to 25% shorter or longer than the length asked for.
Each passage is reframed to 9:16 by tracking the face on screen, with one zoom level per shot and emphasis pushes bounded between x1.0 and x1.6; slides, screens, and wide shots are detected and kept whole rather than cropped.
Nothing is rendered until asked. Framing, keyframes, caption style, and title can be changed first, and the manual editor and its MP4 export work without an account.
Clips open and close on a complete sentence, taken from the word-by-word transcript, so a soundbite does not stop mid-thought. Reframing tracks the face on screen with one zoom per shot; wide shots, two-shots, and screen shares are detected and kept whole instead of being cropped to a face.
Everything is editable before rendering, and the manual editor plus MP4 export work without the need for an account. The output is capped to MP4 1080×1920 at 30 fps. shortshort doesn’t do any dubbing, auto-posting, or adding B-roll.

Pricing is per minute of source footage rather than per clip: an hour costs the same for 3 clips or 20, and 60 minutes are free at sign-up with no card.

- Starter €12 a month (240 credits, 4 hours of video, up to 5 shorts per video
- Creator €29 a month (800 credits, 13 h 20 of video, up to 10 shorts per video)
- Studio €79 a month (3,000 credits, 50 hours of video, up to 20 shorts per video).
I do personally think that the pricing is very high for what is offered, especially given some of the tools that are already available in NLEs that you may already use. The use of AI is also a very touchy subject in the filmmaking community, and while I am all for technology or tools that make the job easier, I also don’t want to see creativity and jobs taken away.
