Canon has announced the EOS R8 Mark II, a full-frame mirrorless update to the 2023 EOS R8. The camera body is expected to ship in late October 2026 for an estimated retail price of $1,899 USD (body only) or $2,099 USD as a kit with the RF24-50mm F4.5-6.3 IS STM lens.
Canon is releasing two accessories alongside it: the EG-E2 Extension Grip ($99.99 USD) and the Speedlite EL-5 Ver.2 ($379 USD).

Featured Specifications
- Sensor: 24.2MP full-frame CMOS, same effective resolution as the original EOS R8
- Stabilization: 5-axis In-Body Image Stabilizer (IBIS), a feature the original R8 did not have
- Autofocus: Dual Pixel CMOS AF II, subject tracking for people, animals, and vehicles
- Burst rate: Up to 40 fps with the electronic shutter, 6 fps with electronic 1st-curtain
- Video: Uncropped 4K up to 60p (6K oversampled), uncropped Full HD up to 180p
- Price: $1,899 body only, $2,099 with RF24-50mm F4.5-6.3 IS STM, available late October 2026
What Changed From the Original EOS R8
The EOS R8, released in 2023, shared its sensor and processor with the EOS R6 Mark II but omitted IBIS to keep the body smaller and lighter. The Mark II adds a 5-axis IBIS unit with Coordinated Control (combining in-body and lens-based stabilization) and Peripheral Coordinated Control, which Canon says targets edge blur on wide-angle lenses. Canon lists the Mark II as approximately 546 g with battery and card, 499 g body only, and describes it as the lightest EOS body with IBIS to date.
Other changes Canon is highlighting:
- A multi-controller has been added to the body, a control point the original R8 lacked.
- Dual Pixel CMOS AF II now tracks people, animals, and vehicles across 100% of the frame, with a “Register people priority” option and, per Canon, more persistent tracking than the previous generation.
- Continuous shooting tops out at 40 fps with the electronic shutter and supports pre-continuous shooting, which buffers up to 20 frames before the shutter button is fully pressed. Canon cites a 58% increase in uninterrupted JPEG bursts and a 30% increase for RAW versus the original R8.
- Video adds uncropped 6K-oversampled 4K at 60p and uncropped Full HD at up to 180p, with audio supported at all frame rates and Slow & Fast motion recording.
- Wi-Fi 6 is supported for wireless transfer, with wired live streaming over USB-C or HDMI and wireless streaming through Canon’s Camera Connect and Live Switcher Mobile apps.
- The card slot remains a single SD slot (SDXC/SDHC/UHS-II), and the battery is unchanged at LP-E17.
Accessories
EG-E2 Extension Grip: A turn-dial grip extension built specifically for the EOS R8 Mark II. It adds height for larger hands and better balance with larger lenses without blocking battery access or the tripod mount. Available late October 2026.

Speedlite EL-5 Ver.2: An update to Canon’s multi-function shoe flash, with longer wireless communication range than the first version and the same high-capacity LP-EL battery pack, which Canon rates for a 1.2-second recycle to full power. Available late October 2026.
Dual Pixel 3D Converter: A Windows application, free at launch, that generates 3D imagery from Dual Pixel RAW files shot on compatible Canon bodies and lenses, or from JPEGs captured with distance data on the EOS R8 Mark II. Output options include a 3D photo with background, a background-isolated 3D model, or a 3D video clip. Canon has not specified whether it will remain free after the initial release.
