Sony was showing its newly announced RM-DP7 and RM-DP5 Monitors at IBC 2026 in Amsterdam. They were designed to integrate camera control and monitoring, and at this stage, they are compatible with the FX5, FX3, FX2, and FX30; however, Sony plans to add support for the FX6 and the BURANO in the second half of 2027.
When I asked Sony if they would work with the VENICE/VENICE 2 and other Alpha series mirrorless hybrids, they couldn’t give me an answer.
What also struck me when seeing the monitors in person was that they are physically pretty big and, at least in my opinion, too large to be used as on-camera monitors with cameras such as the F3 and FX5, especially the RM-DP7.
The DP7 and DP5 feature a high-brightness Full HD panel with up to 2,000 cd/m² of claimed brightness. There are 6 presets, and up to 16 LUTs can be loaded up.
The DP7 and DP5 have touchscreen operability, as well as physical buttons, a control knob, multi-function dials, and wired connectivity. You can do touch focus on the screen. They are also claimed to offer accurate color reproduction and a robust design.
The monitors also offer support for a wireless connection when used in conjunction with the Hollyland Pyro Ultra and the Teradek Bolt 7, as well as other wireless systems. This does require a separate TX and TX unit to be able to do this. With the Teradek Bolt 7, because it integrates a 900Mhz radio, you can use it for wireless camera control functionality when combining it with an RM-DP7 or RM-DP5.
Wired control can also be set up using the Ethernet or USB-C ports.
Equipped with the BIG6 home screen, the DP7 and DP5 allow users to adjust focus when used with compatible autofocus lenses, and zoom when used with compatible power zoom lenses.
Users can also control and adjust exposure and other key settings from the monitor.
ITEM keys correspond to individual feature pages. The REC button toggles recording. ASSIGN buttons and a multifunction dial can be customized depending on your needs. Other features include a Time Counter and Audio Level Meter, which can be displayed on the monitor simultaneously.
As well as providing touch operation, there is a removable focus control knob, multi-function dials, and assignable buttons that give users quick access to frequently used functions.
When using an E-mount lens, you can get lens distance information on the screen as the focus indicator links with the control knob for precise focus pulling. You can also mark mechanical stop settings and focus points as needed.
The included tactile control knob attaches to the side of the monitor to perform focus pulls with compatible Cinema Line cameras in both wired and wireless workflows. The knob itself features an ergonomic design for accurate control and is powered directly from the monitor. It cannot be moved to the other side of the monitor; it can only be used on the right-hand side.
There is a POGO-style connector for attaching the focus wheel.
Both monitors are said to feature Sony’s professional video monitor-grade color calibration technology, and each unit is individually calibrated at the factory and continuously compensates for chromaticity color temperature drift during operation. Users can double-tap anywhere on the screen to zoom in up to 6x. You can then pinch to zoom and swipe to move the zoomed area. The Scopes page offers waveform, vectorscope, false color, and zebra displays for exposure metering. Additional functions like aspect marker, de-squeeze, and peaking support accurate framing and focus.
The DP7 and DP5 have an HDMI input and output, while the DP7 also supports 12G-SDI connection and bidirectional conversion between SDI and HDMI connections.

It is a little odd that all of the inputs and outputs are on top of the monitor, but if you happen to mount it to a camera, you can just flip the display so that they end up underneath instead.
The monitors are constructed with an aluminium body, and they are dust- and moisture-resistant. The housing has a heat-dissipating design with a built-in cooling fan
Both models support multiple power supply options, including BP-U series battery, USB Power Delivery (PD), and DC input (RM-DP7 only).

Both the RM-DP7 and RM-DP5 will be available in January 2027. Below are the prices for the monitors:
- RM-DP7: $3,099.00 USD / $5,699.00 AUD / 3,300 EU / £2,800
- RM-DP5: $2,299.00 USD / $4,299.00 AUD / 2,500 EUR / £2,100
This does make them pretty expensive, given there are already monitors on the market that can do wired and wireless camera control for the Sony FX series cameras; however, they do look to offer good functionality and features for certain applications and use cases. In my opinion, they are arguably a little niche, especially for the target market they appear to be aimed at.
