HD Air Studio is teasing its upcoming HALO handheld-first gimbal system with full remote-head capabilities. HALO has a form factor that is reminiscent of systems such as the DJI Ronin 2, and the MOVCAM HELM 360° Stabilized Remote Head.
According to the company, it was designed and built in collaboration with professional camera operators to create smooth, controlled stabilization while preserving natural movement.
HALO allows users to configure the settings of each axis independently, and it is claimed to be fast to set up and balance. It also has the added ability to do 360° roll and pan, thanks to integrated power and SDI slip rings.

It has a claimed payload capacity of up to 15kg / 33.07 lbs, so it will support a wide range of digital cinema cameras, including the ARRI ALEXA Mini LF/ ALEXA 35, Sony VENICE 2, etc. As a comparison, the DJI Ronin 2 has a payload capacity of 13.6 kg / 30 lbs. While the company hasn’t listed how much HALO will weigh, they are saying that it will be lighter than the DJI Ronin 2, which weighs 5.5 kg / 12 lbs (with Handlebar).
HALO can be controlled via a built-in touchscreen, mobile app, joystick, motion controller, wheels, and third-party integrations.
If you are not familiar with HD Air Studio, they have been around for 17 years. The company has an extensive background in making camera stabilizers like the Cyclo Lite and Cyclo 1 for Steadicam operators, and the Elit 3-axis head for broadcasters.
It is good to see more options coming, as the DJI Ronin 2 has gotten pretty long in the tooth, and it is now more than 9 years old.
There isn’t any more information currently available about HALO, nor is there a price or shipping date.
