Samyang has announced its new AF 14-24mm F2.8 L ultra-wide-angle zoom lens for the L-mount that incorporates optical technology from Schneider-Kreuznach.

The lens has a 77mm front filter diameter, and it weighs in at 441g / 15.56 oz. According to Samyang, this makes it significantly lighter than other full-frame zoom lenses with the same focal length range. As a comparison, the Sigma 14-24mm f/2.8 DG DN Art Lens for Leica L weighs 795g / 28.04 oz.

The optical design of the lens comprises 15 elements in 11 groups. It is claimed to deliver sharp rendering from the centre to the edges of the frame and effectively corrects chromatic and coma aberrations.

The minimum focusing distance is 18cm / 7″ across the entire zoom range, with a maximum magnification of 0.26x.
The lens is equipped with a proprietary linear stepping motor which is claimed to provide fast, quiet and precise AF performance even of fast-moving subjects.
The barrel features an AF/MF switch and a custom button on the side, allowing you to change settings.
The AF 14-24mm F2.8 L incorporates weather sealing to protect the lens from water droplets and dust.

As the L-mount version is updated via the camera, it does not feature the ‘USB port’ found on the FE-mount version.
