Pelican has expanded well beyond the hard case with the launch of CRATE, a fully configurable, ruggedized cargo transport system available in 45L and 90L capacities. CRATE stands for Configurable Ruggedized All-terrain Transport Ecosystem, and the name gives a good sense of what Pelican is going for here. This isn’t just a case; it’s a mounting and organization platform built around Pelican’s new ModRail exterior rail system.
Construction & Protection
Both the CR45 and CR90 are molded from Pelican’s proprietary HPXC polymer and carry an IP67 rating, meaning they’re fully dustproof and protected against temporary immersion in water. The familiar Pelican features are all here: padlockable hasps, an automatic pressure equalization valve, and reinforced grab handles, backed by Pelican’s Limited Lifetime Warranty.
ModRail System
The standout feature is the integrated ModRail exterior attachment rail that runs along the outside of each case. It accepts purpose-built Pelican accessories or standard t-slot rail attachments without drilling or permanent vehicle modifications. The system is designed to anchor CRATE to truck beds, roof racks, cargo platforms, boats, and trailers using quick-release mounts machined from aircraft-grade aluminum. Pelican partnered with The Mounting Company on the mounting hardware, which uses a patented self-aligning quick-release mechanism for tool-free removal in seconds.
Stackable Design
The 45L and 90L sizes interlock, so you can stack a CR45 on top of a CR90 and keep them from shifting on rough terrain. The lid is multi-position and removable, opening from either side so you don’t have to dig around a stack to get to what you need.
