RED V-RAPTOR Firmware 2.2

In the latest RED TECH episode, Cleigh Reed gives an in-depth overview of Firmware 2.2 for the V-RAPTOR platform, including V-RAPTOR XE.

Firmware 2.2 brings updates across power efficiency, monitoring, broadcast, RED Connect, and virtual production workflows. These include faster boot times and reduced power draw, as well as expanded Phantom Track and live production capabilities

This update is built to improve real-world production performance across cinema, broadcast, and VP environments.

Key Improvements in Firmware 2.2:

  • Power and Performance: The update offers significant engineering refinements, including up to 5 watts of reduced power draw and 8 to 10 seconds faster boot times.
  • Monitoring and Control: Users can now achieve smooth ND control directly via the DSMC3 touchscreen, eliminating the need for external controllers. Additionally, there is improved focus peaking and the ability to assign camera functions to monitor buttons.
  • Broadcast Features: A major addition is the automatic record start/stop functionality triggered by external tally commands from video switchers, streamlining live production workflows.
  • Virtual Production: Phantom Track has been updated to include discrete shutter speeds and variable timing for the two tracks, allowing for more flexible frame remapping in LED volumes.
  • RED Connect and Calibration: The update deepens RED Connect integration for live R3D workflows and adds built-in test patterns for easy on-set calibration and display verification
