ARRI has released Software Update Package 6.0.2 for ALEXA 35 Xtreme / ALEXA 35 / ALEXA 35 Live cameras, which addresses an issue identified in the recent SUP 6.0.0 release.
The issue was that when changing the Exposure Index, the camera’s side display would revert to the previously selected EI when recording was started. This issue did not occur when the EI was changed from the MVF-2, the web remote, or the Camera Companion App.
Because sensitivity is baked into Apple ProRes recordings, an unexpected change can negatively affect image quality, especially when a significant EI shift results in underexposure and increased noise during color correction. While less critical for ARRIRAW or ARRICORE, where the incorrect value only affects monitoring and metadata, the issue may still cause confusion when automated dailies are generated using an incorrect EI setting.
Affected camera systems:
- ALEXA 35
- ALEXA 35 Xtreme
- ALEXA Live
This issue does not occur on the ALEXA 265.
It is possible to install a previous software version on ALEXA 35 cameras if needed. However, ALEXA 35 Xtreme is not compatible with any software version earlier than SUP 5.0.0, and ALEXA 35 Live is not compatible with any software version earlier than SUP 2.0.0.
To ensure maximum reliability and preserve full creative control, SUP 6.0.2 should be considered a mandatory update for all affected cameras.
