Deity Microphones announces the PR-4, a compact six-track field recorder featuring four inputs, 32-bit float recording, advanced routing, and a workflow-first design, the PR-4 brings professional production capabilities into a form factor small enough for both on-camera mounting and traditional sound bag use. Pre-orders begin April 14, with units expected to ship in mid-May.
The PR-4 represents a shift in what creators should expect from compact audio recorders, this isn’t a handheld recorder being repurposed for video.
Andrew Jones, Global Marketing Manager at Deity Microphones
The inspiration came from analog ENG-style field mixers where everything was compact and self-contained. We focused on the jobs people do every day; interviews, small crews, run-and-gun setups. And we built a recorder that fits naturally into those workflows.
Built for Real-World Production
The PR-4 was designed to handle the majority of production scenarios crews face daily. A single operator can capture a four-person setup, manage a combination of wireless and/or wired microphones, or even integrate external audio sources such as PA feed using the 6.3mm TRS input found within the XLR Combo jack.
For wedding shooters, corporate videographers, video podcasters, and documentary crews, this means fewer compromises and less time spent managing multiple devices. The PR-4 is designed to reduce setup complexity while still providing the control and flexibility expected in professional workflows.
ReGain Preamp™ Architecture

At the core of the PR-4 is Deity’s new ReGain Preamp™ architecture, delivering up to 60 dB of gain with an equivalent input noise performance that rivals the top recorders on the market. By achieving this level of performance, the PR-4 can cleanly drive even the most gain-hungry dynamic broadcast/podcast microphones without the need for inline boosters.
Dual Media Recording for Reliability
To improve reliability in the field, the PR-4 records simultaneously to both an SD card and an internal 64GB SSD, creating an automatic backup of every recording. This dual-media approach helps protect against data loss caused by card failure, accidental formatting, or file corruption during offloading.
Deity states that the PR-4 is the only audio recorder on the market under $5,995 to feature an internal SSD backup system, bringing a level of redundancy typically reserved for higher-end production gear into a compact, affordable form factor.
Wireless Timecode Integration

The PR-4 is also the first field recorder to natively transmit timecode wirelessly to a timecode boxes and slates. By acting as a central master clock, it simplifies synchronization across cameras and audio devices without requiring additional transmitters, dongles or hardwire setups.
Operators can sync an unlimited number of compatible devices within 10 meters of the PR-4. You can also set the PR-4 to a different wireless TC group when working in a crowded area, such as a press conference or red carpet, to avoid another crew’s TC signal.
This integration allows small production teams to deploy timecode more quickly, reducing sync time and improving overall workflow efficiency during setup.
Classic Design for Modern Setups

The PR-4’s physical design reflects what productions want: a top-down layout that keeps all connections accessible, whether mounted on a camera or used inside a sound bag.

XLR connectors are placed on the right side, mirroring the ENG camera tradition of placing them on the “dumb side” of a camera. Outputs are placed on the left side, so they align with the inputs of a camera, allowing you to keep your cable runs short and tidy. This return to classic design has been lost in the compact recorder market.

A nice feature of the layout is that the battery/SD card bay is accessible without having to dismount the unit from a camera.

An optional metal cheeseplate-style cage expands mounting possibilities, transforming the PR-4 into a flexible recording hub capable of supporting wireless receivers, microphone mounts, and camera rig accessories.
Features for Challenging Shoots

The PR-4 delivers more than 8.5 hours of runtime with a Deity NP-F550 battery and supports internal battery charging via its USB-C port or a Hirose-compatible power port. This allows operators to maintain continuous operation and simplifies power management during highly mobile production.
Also included in the PR-4 is LiveHit DeNoiser™, helping maintain clarity when environmental conditions would otherwise make a speaker’s voice hard to follow.
Additional features include VoiceAware Automix™, which dynamically manages active inputs to create a clean stereo reference mix for post-production, as well as support for four channels of AES3, AES42 microphones, dual independent outputs, and integration w with the Sidus Audio™ app for wireless control and monitoring.
