The new Panasonic DMW-DMS1 is an all-in-one digital shotgun microphone designed for a wide range of shooting scenarios. It is claimed to provide high-quality sound, advanced features, all in a compact and lightweight form factor.

It is compatible with the following Panasonic cameras:

  • DC-S1M2

The DC-GH7 and G9M2 will be supported in the future via a firmware update.

32-bit Float Recording

Equipped with dual AD converters, the DMW-DMS1 supports 32-bit float recording. Additionally, its high sound pressure tolerance design, which exceeds 120dB SPL, suppresses sound distortion even in high-volume environments.

Cameras compatible with this feature (as of February 2026) are the DC-S1M2, S1M2ES, and S1RM2.

You can also utilize two backup recording modes to prevent missed recordings due to settings errors, as well as to capture ambient sound. During 4-channel audio recording, channels 3/4 can be used as backup channels.

Cable-Free Hot Shoe Connection

Power and digital audio input are supplied directly from the camera body via the hot shoe connection alone.

Easy-to-operate hard switches

The audio controls are on the side, while the rear houses six directional mode buttons. The brightness of the directional mode button lights can be switched in three levels from the camera side, depending on the shooting environment.

φ10mm Microphone Array

The Panasonic DMW-DMS1 features a newly developed large-diameter φ10mm microphone array. According to Panasonic, Strict quality control minimizes variation between microphone elements to achieve both high sound quality and excellent directionality.

Front-Focused Unidirectional

Records naturally while preserving some ambient sound. Recommended for group conversations or filming that incorporates background noise.

Stereo

Emphasizes the front and records with a sense of presence. Recommended for street performances or studio recordings.

Wide Stereo

Emphasizes the spaciousness of the environment and records with a sense of presence. Recommended for recitals or sports scenes.

Front Supercardioid

Clearly captures sounds from the front while suppressing sounds from the sides and rear. Recommended for noisy locations or rooms with significant reverberation.

Rear Supercardioid

The built-in shock mount system with a floating structure significantly reduces vibration noise generated during activities like walking while recording. The included large windscreen ensures clear outdoor recordings. It suppresses wind noise while maintaining sound quality.
