ARRI Trinity 2 Software Update SUP 4.0

ARRI has released the Trinity 2 SUP 4.0. This release is the result of months of real-world testing, fine-tuning, and close collaboration with the people who know Trinity best. Alex Voit from Fomar Systems and Leon Morales, a Trinity 2 owner-operator, explain and demonstrate the new features in ARRI’s latest Tech Talk video.

SUP 4.0 brings a lot of new features, improved performance, and optimizations designed for demanding on-set conditions.

New features & improvements include:

  • Improvements for TRINITY 2 and the TRINITY 2 Pan Axis Module
  • Five new TRINITY user modes
  • Zoom Sync (pan/tilt speed matched to focal length)
  • PID Auto Tune method
  • Motor ON/OFF switch via PID menu
  • Faster start-up
  • Screen lock feature
  • Improved Drop mode
  • Improved RF-2400 pairing and radio communication
  • Bug fixes

Five New Trinity Modes

One of the biggest features in Trinity 2 SUP 4.0 is the introduction of five distinct Trinity modes:

  • Trinity Mode – Optimized for tight spaces, enabling nearly 0-degree look-around capabilities.
  • Artemis Mode – Locks tilt motors while stabilizing the roll axis.
  • Top Down Mode – Maintains camera position with roll stabilization
  • Side 1 Mode – Ideal for one-axis stabilization. Tilt motor can be switched off, allowing high-speed sideways operation.
  • Side 2 Mode – Alternative low-reactivity mode for specialized side operations.

Switching between these modes can be done either via Mastergrip or directly on the RCP interface, giving operators maximum flexibility.

Enhanced Calibration & Roll Control

Trinity 2 SUP 4.0 adds Roll Scale Calibration, which allows for higher precision roll movements. To perform this calibration, make sure the Trinity 2 is docked in the docking bracket and that tilt and roll motors are powered on.

Operators can access the calibration via: Menu → Head Calibration → Roll Scale Calibration

This new calibration ensures smoother automated roll movements and more accurate stabilization, especially for complex shots.

Safety Upgrade

A critical safety feature has been added; in case of obstruction during a roll movement, the system will now shut down automatically to prevent damage to equipment.

Battery Upgrade

Battery management has also been improved, allowing for longer, uninterrupted shooting sessions on set.

Zoom Sync for Live Broadcasts and Long Lenses

Trinity 2 SUP 4.0 also includes a new Zoom Sync, enabling the Trinity 2 to communicate directly with your lens via LBUS. This is useful for live broadcasts or ENG lenses where smooth zoom adjustments are paramount.

The Zoom Sync function is used to automatically adjust the pan and tilt speed to the current zoom factor. When zooming in, the speed is reduced; when zooming out, it is increased accordingly.

Operators can set the zoom-out speed and activate Zoom Sync via: FIZ Setup → Zoom Sync → Activate

Motor Off Function for Easier Setup

You can now turn off the motors, allowing one person to add batteries or attach accessories while the operator makes settings in the menu. Once the setup is complete, the motors can be switched back on immediately.

ARRI TRINITY 2 Pan Axis Module

ARRI TRINITY 2 Pan Axis Module

With a Pan Axis Module attached, the Trinity 2 camera stabilizer can be converted into a compact three-axis stabilized remote head. The new module allows Trinity 2 to be used in situations that would normally be reserved for standalone remote heads or three-axis gimbals.

The Trinity 2 Pan Axis allows Pan rotations up to 720°, in addition to multiple roll rotations and 170° of tilt range. It weighs only 3.5 kg / 7.7 lb. It looks to be a good solution for use in tight spaces, such as inside a car or mounted to a motorcycle.

The modular pan axis design has the same shape as the Trinity 2 head, enabling easy mounting. Users can switch between body-mounted operation of the stabilizer and hard-mounted remote head mode with the Pan Axis Module, and it can be done in under five minutes.

When used as a three-axis remote head, the Trinity 2 has a 25 kg / 55 lb. payload capacity.

Pan Axis Module Software Improvements

The Off Center Indicator lets operators quickly identify balance issues by observing the current and position indicators in the PID settings menu.

There is also Manual Drift Correction, which allows operators to correct drift in real-time.

Improvements

  • Startup time- It now takes less time for the head to start up after being turned on.
  • GUI- Graphical user interface has been customized.
  • Screen lock- A new screen lock feature has been added.
  • Position- Increased position update rate on the main screen.
  • Drop- Drop mode functionality implemented with improved mathematical basis.
  • Wireless- Radio communication and pairing processes for RF-2400 (RCPU A02.03.00) have been improved. NOTICE! RF-2400 shall be paired again after the update.
  • Gyro- Gyro calibration procedure has been optimized.
  • Backup- Backup recovery procedure has been optimized.
