At Cine Gear 2025 in Los Angeles, Angénieux has unveiled two new user-swappable iris blades for its Optimo Prime series. There is an oval iris as well as a triangle-shaped iris that has 3 aperture blades.
One of the unique features of the Optimo Primes is the ability to replace the iris blade unit and the ability to add filters to change optical properties, MTF, CCI, etc. This allows users to tune the lenses when needed.
The Angénieux Oval Iris joins the IOP (Integrated Optical Palette) family as an exclusive feature designed for the Optimo Prime Series to offer new creative perspectives for cinematographers.
You can create a unique image, combining the characteristics of a modern high-end spherical lens with the typical oval bokeh of an anamorphic lens without its constraints.
The iris that has 3 aperture blades, creates a triangle shaped bokeh that is very remisecent of the Zeiss Superspeeds.
