The new eMotimo Dana Dolly Integration Kit V3 is almost here. The company is now taking pre-orders, which will then ship mid-May.
The Dana Dolly is somewhat of an industry standard when it comes to quick and easy-to-use speed rail solutions. Launched way back in 2017, a lot of thought went into eMotimo’s Version 1 of the Dana Dolly integration. This integration kit was great for shooting interviews, products, and visual effects while also being compatible with all 8 configurations of straight track Dana Dolly.
eMotimo recognized that the kit could be better and thought that a kit that was ultra-easy to set up, but only for most users, might be the way to go, but ultimately their V2 Version was never released.
Dana Dolly Integration Version 3 is a complete redesign and is beltless
Dana Dolly Integration Version 3 gets rid of the end clamps; it gets rid of the belt and uses a direct drive motor mounted under the Dana Dolly carriage to provide the power.
A few design highlights:
- It is super simple to set up and attach to your Dana Dolly – initial setup time is less than 5 minutes
- Subsequent setup time is nothing – place the carriage on the track, turn on and go.
- It is smooth and quiet
- Can go long – with no belt front how long do you want/need to go!
- Toggle to manual mode by disengaging the drive wheel and locking it out of the way
- Supports curved track! By losing the belt, we support new configurations that open up new possible shot types
- Lower Pricing! Pricing for the new kit will be $489 ($439 for presale) and is less than our existing Dana Dolly V1 integration kit!
eMotimo has spent time on how they can most reliably drive the dolly with accuracy over time, even without sensing. They focused on wheel suspension to keep constant wheel pressure against the rail, as well as creating custom wheels with the right durometer or hardness to enable grip and durability
This design solves a lot of problems for users who want to quickly create establishment shots, product shots, and even timelapse, whether shooting with their Spectrum ST4 or Conductor SA2.6 as the controller.
With their Conductor SA2.6 controllers, they add track sensing to optically read markers on the rails for continuous correction for minor wheel slippage that will always occur with friction drives. With this, all day interview shots with no resets are easy. For a complete solution with no compromises, this is why they are launching DDV3 with their Conductor line first.
eMotimo will add track sensing/calibration with the Spectrum line of products too, but the tech is a little bit different, and it’s not ready yet. If you are interested in helping them beta test this, send them a note to [email protected] with the subject line: DDV3 Spectrum Beta Test interest.
